Brewing Great Coffee In A Home Drip Coffee Maker

Brewing great coffee in a home drip coffee maker is not that difficult, provided you have the right equipment, the right water, proper filter, and a quality freshly roasted coffee.

Brewing great coffee requires a quality drip coffee maker

The low-end drip coffee makers, let's say those priced below $30, seem to allow the water to pass through the ground coffee too quickly. The true flavor of the coffee is produced by the exchange of the heat and the minerals in the water. So, if the water is not hot enough or passes through too rapidly, the coffee will not have the best flavor.
Some quality drip coffee makers have a built-in water reservoir that provides a constant supply of hot water. Others heat the water as you pour it into the coffee maker and this method may not get the water hot enough to brew properly.

Brewing great coffee requires properly filtered water

As previously explained, the true flavor of your coffee will be produced by the exchange of heat and the minerals in the water used to brew the coffee. If the water has been distilled or softened too much, there will be no minerals in the water necessary to produce the flavor. The water coming from the tap oftentimes has a large amount of chlorine or other additives that affect the taste or smell of the water. Whatever chemical is in the water will leach into your coffee and affect the taste, unless it has been properly filtered. Some coffee makers come with a built-in water filter and another good choice would be to use bottled spring water.

Great coffee must be properly filtered

The white coffee filters have been bleached to make them white. The chemicals used in the bleaching process will end up in your coffee and this will sometimes have a dramatic affect on the taste. Unbleached coffee filters, the brown ones, are a better choice in brewing your coffee. Also, some drip coffee makers have a brewing basket made of wire or other material, which eliminates the need for any other filter.

To brew great coffee you must start with freshly roasted coffee

Choosing the right quality coffee just may be the most important step in brewing that perfect cup of coffee. It is very important that the coffee be freshly roasted and freshly ground. One problem in buying coffee at your local grocery or supermarket is that you have no idea as to when the coffee was roasted; it could have been weeks or months ago. The best coffee can be purchased at your local independent coffee shop. Chain coffee shops buy their coffee in large quantities and you just don't know how long this coffee has been in the store or in a warehouse somewhere. Independent coffee shops normally buy their coffee from coffee roasters more often and in smaller quantities. Some independent coffee shops even roast the coffee on site.

For coffee lovers, the best way to start the morning is to smell the aroma of a freshly brewed pot of coffee. There's nothing better than enjoying a great cup of coffee outside on the patio or deck, so grab that great cup of coffee you just brewed and enjoy the day.
